Paramedicine - Associate of Applied Science (Major Code - PAR)
The Paramedicine Associate of Applied Science degree prepares the student to become a Nationally Registered Paramedic. Paramedics render basic and advanced medical treatment before and during patient transport to a medical facility and they assess and treat a wide variety of medical emergencies. Paramedics work for fire departments, law enforcement agencies, private ambulance services, industrial companies, clinics, and hospitals.
Admission into the program requires a separate application. Prior to enrollment in the paramedicine program, all students must pass a computer-based entrance examination.
Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate through verbal, written, and performative means the knowledge, skills, ability, and critical thinking needed to meet or exceed terminal competencies set by local, state, and national licensing standards and approved by the program medical director.
- Provide expeditious and situationally appropriate assessment, treatment, and transport of patients with all demographic backgrounds and complaints.
- Execute entry-level, autonomous paramedic tasks in a manner that demonstrates consistently sound judgment in line with established ethical, professional, and legal bounds.
- Cultivate respect and advocacy for physical, mental, and emotional well-being of all.
- Promote safety and wellness of personnel and patients by adhering to and modeling applicable regulations.

The program coordinator may waive PMD 101 for students who meet the course requirements. All PMD courses must be completed with a grade of B or better.
